Idea for short....

I had this idea for a short, whilst driving along the other day listening to Simon Mayo poking fun at the house of lazy rich wankers debating hunting foxes...


How about a bunch of skineads - various ages, and some birds - all uniformed up with with red n black etc. usually imagegry for skins, with staffs bull terriers etc.
drinking in a pub, when some oik stick is ead in the doorway and yells ' got one.....' and pulls it out again, followed by the pub mob.

cut to an Asian lad - who looks up and suddenly spots this herd of ooligans bearing down. and takes flight.

a montage sequence of the asian chap running for his life,and the hunting pack chasing. ( with the sound effects from the real hunting thing )

finally, EITHER he gets away or he gets cought and beaten to shit/death.

Interperse the footage with civilised interview clips with mombers of the hunting group - aksing Q's like how did you get into it, usually news fare type of stuff - making them look civilised and normally adjusted.

- one of the interviews explains how the govt made licensed hunts the only way, and how a loophole had allowed the definition of prey to be made....and thus they get to hunt down asians.
maybe some sabotuers - dressed as asians to throw of the hunters.....

Plod helping out.....or not depending on how you feel about it.


and before I get linched for being a racist. Im not. it could equally be asains chasing a white guy - its just i think it works better with the whites chasing.

I just thought its a great image. i cannot believe anyone actually thinks the fox is having a good time during one of these.- and I wanted to get a gut wrenching 'ban this fng thing'

a closing title, maybe a nice shocking image, with the bloid n guts etc
and a title -
' Hunting is Humane pest control '

anyway its just a thought.

Yeah its an interesting idea.
I dunno it just sounds like you're attacking fox hunting using racism. Personally apart from the chase I dont see any parallels between the two. Racism exists on more levels than violence.

I agree totally that fox hunting must be banned. It's only perpetuated conservative snobs with lots of money who really do do it just for the fun of it.
When you stop to think about it though it is really just another animal. But despite the fact that the fox is totured and scared out of its skin until it is caught is not the issue. We've come a lot further with the issue of racism and that's fart more complex than fox hunting because of bloody ignorant conservatists...and the...I'm sorry but...the monarchy.

--To be honest I think this would be really shit. I hate fucking manipulative fox hunting protesters - no integrity at all in showing sick images like that to promote your cause. People shouldn't say - "urrgh thats disgusting and painful lets stop fox hunting', they should realise what they are doing is fucking wrong.

It wont be solved until the generation practising the 'sport', all die. I dont think the youth today have any interest in posing around like a snob, chasing poor defenseless animals.

at first thought i thought it was a powerful idea that'd work well as a thought-provoking short, but after thinking about it for a while i've started to take redlum's p.o.v. to draw parallels between something like racism and fox hunting belittles the problem of racism. also, the idea of the shocking final image with the (seemingly) positive (even though written as a sarcasm) manipulates the audience into thinking anti-hunting rather than allowing them to decide for themselves, kinda like those stickers you get showing animals in pieces, with 'Esso' or 'Boots' signs above them....

banning fox hunting will not stop foxes being maimed, but it does draw the public focus away from 1700 troops being sent to afghanistan to help beat an american terrorist problem, who will subsequently likely detour via iraq on their way back.

the fox is a red herring.

many unpleasant things exist in this world.

anyways, how would i portray fox hunting?

i think i'd intercut a fox being mangled by the dogs, every detail of gore, and juxtapose that with, perhaps, scenes from a nightclub.

my intended message: if you really care, stop fucking each other and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!!

which leads me onto a neat idea for a film: what if humans procreate so much that they are regarded as vermin. oh, I think God already did that one with the Great Flood ;-)

Specieism. Animals are looked upon as not deserving of the same moral thought and consideration that is normally given to humans. It's the same with racism. To attempt to justify racism, racists try to portray other races as subhuman and inferior. They argue that other races are unequal and do not deserve the same ethical treatment that they might treat members of their own race with. In the same way, people justify animal cruelty and killing by saying that animals are inferior beings and do not deserve the same consideration that humans do. There was a time when it would be laughable to say that black people had rights, but now it's generally seen as riduculous to say otherwise.

So back to the original topic - although the ending is a bit manipulative, the idea of juxtaposing news interview style footage with the chase scene sounds like a pretty effective and interesting way to tell the story. Sorry for the long-winded post!

30 minutes after I posted this initially, and was on my merry way home I thought :

The point/message/question is as noted earlier : Is it right to hunt animals becasue they are animals and not humans.

by all means control pests, but chasing them with a pack of dogs and on horses just seems like waging a war by building a bypass.

I discussed it with the wife, and she suggested using a great deal of material to support man's inhumanity to man :
CHildren in hospital, in Iraq who cant get simple medication due to sanctions, parents to commit attrocities against other nations, nations who commit attrocities against other nations ( Iraq children die: parents bomb US Embassy: US bombs civilians or Isreal shoots stone throwing palestinians: palestinians blow up children: Auchwitz, Hiroshima, the towers, Oaklahoma, Lenningrad, Stalingrad, Southa Africa BEfore and After

this I think makes for another short. Anyone can justify Anything from their point of view. Might even keep it all religous, and then use titles from the 10 comandments wich are sacronsanct to all 3 religions....

but I digress.
